From Romance Novels & Ransom Notes

-Another Day-

“Another day, another dollar.” Isn’t that the phrase? That’s what they say right? Thing is, a dollar won’t do anything for you these days. Can’t even get a Coke for a dollar.
My apartment is cold, dingy and it smells of mold and mildew. Ha ha, and I’m getting evicted. That is where my life is now. I can’t even afford to live in a building that should be condemned. The woman next door said she’d loan me the money for the next two months if I’d “spend some time with her”. At first I was flush with pride and told her no. Now, with eviction day looming, I’m starting to consider it. Seriously. I mean living on the street has to be worse than “spending time” with a fifty-year-old ex-stripper. Right?
Another day, another sacrifice.

-Remember when…-

Remember when you met?
Her eyes drew you in
You could taste her before
You knew her name.
Remember?
She told you she loved
Music. You melted.
She picked you up to go out one night
She was listening to Brittany.
You never saw her again.

From No Apologies

-Prozac huh? Good Luck with that-

Riding in the summer heat
I feel free from the seat of my Bonnie
My jet-black two-wheeled chariot
of freedom
My escape
You can have your drugs
your booze
you can take your TV
and your sports
Give me a road and $10 for gas
Give the wind in my face
and some good music in my headphones
You can take your Prozac
and your therapy
I’ll take the long road home
through the forest, by the lake,
along the river
I’ll just ride till I can’t anymore
I’ll see the world from this seat
on these two wheels
Wind pressing against my chest
More free than any
drug can make you feel

-Love, Me.-

I had this girlfriend
Just after
I dropped out
Of college
She was an artist
Who never made any art

After reading
Some of
My stuff
She told me
She thought
I was in love
With myself

I figured that’s
A damn sight
Better than
Being the
Poor
Sucker in
Love with
Her
